Graduation

Graduation is an important time in a student’s experience at UBC. Students may have questions about how their preferred or chosen name will be used during graduation or on their diploma.

A preferred name is a given name that someone commonly uses that is different from their legal given name.

Yes. If a student would like to have their preferred name read as they cross the stage and printed in the graduation ceremony booklet, they can submit their request via this form.

Please note that there is a deadline for requesting that a preferred name be used during the graduation ceremony. Check the deadline for the next graduation ceremony.

The name on the official student record will be the name printed on the diploma, but there are some name variations you can request. More information can be found on the Student Services website.
